Our Mission & History

The Stony Brook University Fishing Club connects the next generation of anglers with Long Island's vibrant fishing community and the university's renowned research culture. Open to all skill levels, students can learn the fundamentals or refine their angling skills through fishing trips, mentorship, and weekly meetings.

Off the water, members gain exposure to on-campus research opportunities. The club conducts studies ranging from fish tagging and behavioral analysis to environmental trends, fostering not only a love for fishing but an appreciation for the intricate science beneath the surface.

With extensive connections to elite surfcasters, tuna captains, and commercial fishermen, we host informative seminars that allow students to explore the diverse fishing opportunities on Long Island. Through sponsorships, fundraisers, and other endeavors, we provide fishing equipment for students who cannot afford it or feel intimidated by the high entry cost to the sport.

Whether it is fishing adventures, educational seminars, or even research opportunities, The Stony Brook University Fishing Club offers students a community of passion, learning, and discovery!
